Trying to Survive in the 21st Century/You don't have to be vegan

I have been a vegetarian for 37 years, not because I feel it is a healthier option for myself, but because I believe it is a healthier option for animals if humans choose not to eat them.

Having said that, I am not a vegan. For 37 years I have closed my mind to the truth about what happens to animals and their offspring that are born and bred to give us milk and eggs. But I can no longer turn a blind eye to male chicks being shredded alive because they can't be used for food or egg production and to hens and cows being slaughtered once their hormones no longer yield a commodity for human consumption.

And yet, and yet, I don't seem to be able to sustain a vegan diet, at least not full time. My adventurous spirit is partly to blame. I have tried travelling to France and Spain particularly (countries that are not sympathetic to human herbivores) and not succumbing to a bit of cheese or the odd omelette now and then, but I have failed. Even at home, with all the vegan resources right there at my fingertips I still fail. So, what's a girl to do?

The answer lies here:

Buy eggs from Hen Nation and cheese and yoghurt from Ahimsa where animals are treated with respect and allowed to retire and live out the rest of their days with dignity.

Hen Nation eggs are also available from The Jewish Vegetarian Society.
